With summer well and truly gone and the cacophony of shows and parades that mark the season for Chicago's classic car owners and dealers gradually winding down, it's time for car enthusiasts to turn their minds to other things-like how much they're paying for their classic car insurance. Studies show that too many are paying way too much.
Wait. Is it really possible to pay too much for your classic car insurance? Absolutely. While the last thing you want to do is leave your well cared for investment that represents thousands of dollars and hundreds of man-hours in restoration time unprotected when you do take it out of the garage and out on the highways, you don't want some car insurance company ripping off you just because they didn't tell you that you didn't have the right kind of coverage, right?
See, most first time classic car owners unthinkingly use their own Chicago car insurance policy to cover the newest additions to their garage. Why would you pay the same amount to insure a car that was to wide open to all those risks as you do to insure the one that rarely sees the outside of your garage?
A recent study published by the Chicago Tribune proved that classic car owners who take the time to hunt up specialized car insurance policies for their collectibles rather than just insuring them under the same policy they use for their commuter car are able to save 20% or more on their annual premiums. That's $100 or more a year you could be putting toward other expenses, just by doing a little homework and finding a company that deals exclusively with classic cars. If you can meet their requirements (minimal driving time, adequate garaging location, etc., etc.) you can give your classic car the awesome car insurance an awesome hot rod deserves without slapping your checking account with an awesome bill.
