A little television serial hit the airwaves in 2001 and immediately attracted a cult following. The first episodes received significant acclaim from audiences of all ages and new interest in the show continued to grow.
Typical conversations began to be sprinkled with the events of the latest Smallville episodes. If one was living on Mars, he might ask the question on his return, "what is this thing called Smallville?"
Smallville is perhaps described as an incarnation of Superman. But Smallville episodes are certainly not rewrites or add-ons of the popular Superman comic books.
The first of the Smallville episodes opens with a meteor shower in October 1989 over a small town called Smallville in Kansas. Businesses are destroyed and lives are lost. Jonathan and Martha Kent discover a young boy who fell to earth in a spaceship.
Twelve years later, now known as Clark Kent, this boy saves the life of Lex Luthor. Clark uses super human powers he has long kept secret and both of their lives change forever.
Smallville episodes continue with a suspicious Lex Luthor making investigation of how it was possible for Clark to have saved his life against all odds. Watchers are introduced to Clark as some ordinary boy typical in his clumsiness and sweet on a girl, Lana, who has eyes for someone else but, alas, a boy with a secret to keep from his peers and the community. Clark's supporters are pleased in latter Smallville episodes when Clark and Lana do connect from time to time. But this is a complicated world and relationships take on their own complications.
Should I mention Lex Luthor?
It's a complex development and certainly not predictable.
Superman fans may even think that this Lana is one love of Superman's life, Lois Lane. But this is not Superman and Lana is not Lois Lane. In fact, we do meet Miss Lane much later in the Smallville episodes. Superman fans have continued be to pleased and teased in Smallville episodes, almost cruelly even.

Smallville episodes have run for 6 seasons from 2001 until the 22nd episode of the 6th season in 2007. In total, there are 132 episodes of Smallville.
Season 6, episode 22 of the Smallville episodes is the season finale, "Phantom". In this episode a new editor will be joining the Daily Planet; this may be a love interest for Lois Lane. Oh, the curse of the love triangle. In earlier Smallville episodes, Chloe's life had been endangered in a bid to save the life of Lois Lane, episode 22 finds her surviving the ordeal. However, Lana may not be so fortunate.
The anticipation for season 7 may be too much for some, but whatever the outcome, Smallville fans will not be left disappointed.
